Ellie Cripps, University of Bristol
Ellie works in the Public Engagement team at the University of Bristol, providing opportunities for students and researchers working in science and engineering to engage communities outside of the University. She also supports teachers and schools connecting with the University through activities, events and CPD for teachers. Previously, she coordinated the STEM Ambassador volunteering programme for Bristol and Bath at Graphic Science.
The Public Engagement team at the University of Bristol creates connections inside and outside the University, promoting conversations between our staff, students and communities.
For community partners and external organisations, we broker relationships with researchers so community members can have a say in research that will affect our future.
For our researchers we offer advice and skills development support to help develop and deliver engagement activities that meet the needs and interests of Bristol’s communities.
For schools, we connect teachers with opportunities to engage with our researchers and students. This includes events that we host such as hands-on STEM fairs, workshops in schools led by current researchers or CPD sessions for teachers, covering topics from Philosophy of Science to genetics!
We also work regularly with our colleagues in our outreach team, who can lead aspiration raising activities for your school.
We are very happy to be a part of Curiosity Connections to bring together all the fantastic organisations around Bristol who can inspire primary school children about STEM. It’s a great opportunity for us to share ideas, learn from each other and collaborate to create more activities and events that are easy to access, inspiring and fun!
