Primary schools are the perfect place to start engineering a better world – so why not put all that curiosity, enthusiasm, teamwork and amazing questions to good use in Tomorrow’s Engineers Week!
From the 2nd – 6th November, join engineering institutions, employers and educators in this week-long celebration of engineering, highlighting to young people that engineering is a creative, problem solving, exciting career that improves the world around us.
The week long programme includes:
#ImAnEngineer social campaign, launching on Monday 2nd November
This social media campaign will share engineers’ stories on social media during Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, to celebrate engineers and their contribution to the world around us, and show young people what a rewarding career engineering can be. Follow the #ImAnEngineer hashtag for some inspiring stories throughout the week. There are also lots of online resources available including engineering experiences, stories and careers resources to help you bring STEM to life with real-world examples of engineering.
The Big Quiz (new for 2020!), launching on Tuesday 3 November
New for this year, the Big Quiz for schools – take part for the chance of winning two £1,000 prizes of STEM vouchers to spend on equipment. Suitable for home learning, homework or for use as part of a lesson, this fun 30-minute quiz will develop young people’s engineering knowledge and provide lots of useful information about exciting engineering careers.
It’s simple to take part. Open from Tuesday 3rd November until 14:00 on Thursday 12th November, students will be able to access the quiz here. They’ll need to enter the name of your school, part of its postcode and region to get started. The winning schools will be announced at 14:00 on Friday 13 November on the Tomorrow’s Engineers Week website and social media channels.
#BeTheDifference from the Royal Academy of Engineering, on Wednesday 4 November
#BeTheDifference is a social media campaign, celebrating the engineering that shapes our world for the better, whether that’s by making our day to day lives easier or tackling some of our biggest global challenges. Follow the hashtag on social media this Wednesday 4th Nov for some inspirational engineering stories, and join in with some online Q&A sessions on the day, where engineers will answer students’ questions live:
09.15 – How technology is changing the way we communicate
10.15 – How to respond to a global health crisis
11.15 – How to get into engineering
13.45 – Engineering sport
14.45 – How to engineer a sustainable world

Take part in the Engineer in 2020 Instagram Takeover, where a young engineer will be answering live questions on Thursday 5th November on the Tomorrow’s Engineers Instagram account.
