At the Royal Photographic Society House in Bristol (337-340 Paintworks, Bristol BS4 3AR) an exhibition is on display from 5th July to 29th September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings.
Space Steps: The moon and beyond – uses film and photos of the event to explore the momentous journey of Apollo 11. This includes capturing some of the space race missions running up to 20 July 1969, paying particular tribute to the women involved.
There’s an extra exhibit – Ascension – that glimpses into the the current state of space exploration.
The exhibits are for the whole family, and the RPS are also hosting a whole bundle of events over the summer you might like to attend, here’s a few of our top suggestions:
- talks on the Apollo moon landing – on it’s anniversary – 20th July
- learn more about the women involved in the space race – 8th August
- get some top tips on space photography – 31st August
The exhibition and events are great ways to have fun while also finding inspiration and ideas to run a moon landing class for your students come September! And to help you take the moon landings into the classroom, the RPS have compiled a set of resources for teachers, which include questions and activities for the classroom – take a look and see what you can use!
