Science through stories

Had you ever thought about using a story to teach science?

  • How about using Little Red Riding Hood to introduce habitats and food chains?
  • Iron Man to teach forces and magnetism?
  • Or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to talk about States of Matter?

STEM Learning have lots of pointers for taking common books and turning them into scientific inquires, and their resources are age categorised.

And the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment link stories to experiments – and have pdf instructions freely available. You could get your class to be like the BFG and make their own Fizzy Potions!
