7 March 2019 – Wiltshire Science Subject Leader Update Meeting

This is a local network meeting led by Carol Sampey to facilitate the sharing of good practice. The event will look at bringing the wonder of the Jurassic Coast to your classroom:

  • Explore how the Big Jurassic Classroom online resources can be used effectively to deliver the requirements of the Key Stage 2 rocks and fossils learning content.
  • Inspire children to look closely at rocks, fossils and landforms in YOUR local area.
  • Find out how to borrow the new Rocks and Fossil Boxes
  • Make creative Cross-Curricular links in Literacy, Numeracy, Geography and Art and Design.

Secure knowledge of what outstanding practice looks like strengthens the ability to support colleagues, for the benefit of themselves and their students. On this course we will consider how to embed outstanding practice in all lessons and improve outcomes.

28 March 2019 9:00 – 16:00 – Making powerful connections: mathematics and science, literacy and science

Collecting, analysing and presenting data in science requires and provides opportunity for the use and development of mathematical skills. Throughout this course, you will identify how to maximise your pupils opportunities to develop their numeracy skills and improve attainment in science by planning lessons in which children effectively handle data. You will explore a range of strategies designed to improve children’s ability to use scientific language. You will be able to maximise the opportunities for developing literacy skills and improving attainment in science by planning lessons in which children communicate science ideas, knowledge and understanding.

Meeting people who use STEM subjects in their life and work will enable students to see the relevance of the subject in the outside world and will motivate and support them in their learning. These may include employers, parents and STEM ambassadors as well as technicians and teaching assistants. Why not build on their ideas?

29 March 2019 09:00-15:00 Essential skills for new and aspiring science leadership (2nd day)

The 2nd day of the workshop, working with an experienced science leader, you will develop your vision and leadership skills to enable you to lead an effective and vibrant science team.
