Would you like to see your pupils’ poems published?

Here’s your opportunity! Ablaze, a charity that exists to tackle inequality of opportunity for young people in the West of England region, are running a poetry competition.

Children are challenged to write a poem about ‘Travel’. Winning entries will be published in a special Ablaze book.

You could get your class to write about places they’ve visited, places they would like to visit (real or imaginary), different methods of travelling, or even time travel!

You’ve got plenty of time to stir the creative juices as the final closing date for entries is Friday 15th February 2019

More info

Get you class to type up the poem, making sure to include Name, Year Group &
School, then have them email it to you or the school office for submission to Ablaze.

Full terms and conditions can be found at https://ablazebristol.org/poetry2018-19

This is Ablaze’s fourth annual Poetry Competition, and is run in association with Bristol AirportIntellect Ltd. and Miles Chambers.

Each year around 70 poems are selected for the book and a panel of judges choose Winners and Runners-Up in the following age categories: Under 7 (Reception, Y1 & Y2), 7-9 (Y3 & Y4) and 9-11 (Y5 & Y6), as well as an Overall Winner. Winners and runners-up are invited to a prize-giving event in June where they get the chance to read their poems aloud and be presented with a certificate and prize.

All schools with children featured in the book will receive a complimentary copy of the poetry book for their school library. Additional books will be available to purchase for £5 through Ablaze.

And a picture competition

Ablaze are also looking for a colourful picture for the front cover of the book with the theme of ‘Travel’. Pupils can let their imaginations and creativity run wild to create an eye-catching cover picture. Pictures must be drawn on a piece of A4 white paper, keep it bold and colourful with no writing please.
